Seniors in our community need your support!

Let’s face it. The population in the Parkland region is aging!

  • The population of seniors in Alberta will increase from 550,000 to 950,000 by 2031.
  • Seniors could represent between 23% and 25% of the total population in 2036.
  • By 2031, it is estimated that more than 24,000 seniors will live in the Parkland region. This compares with an estimated 12,000 seniors living in this region today!

At the same time, there is a growing desire amongst seniors to “age in place;” that is, to stay in their own homes and communities for as long as possible and rely less on institutional care.

Access to appropriate, community-based housing and support services for seniors is only now being recognized as an important societal priority.

Meridian Foundation is building choices and enriching lives!

Every contribution, however large or small, helps a senior in your community.

You can choose to designate your contribution to one of our three important funds.

Capital Projects Fund

It is estimated that 1/3 of Albertans in core housing need are seniors.

As part of its strategic plan, Meridian Foundation has set ambitious goals to build more appropriate housing facilities for local seniors. We are working hard to reduce our current wait lists of seniors needing access to housing in the Parkland region.

Your contribution will be put to work immediately towards capital building projects including:

Folkstone Affordable Housing Apartment – slated for completion in late 2020, this project will provide low to moderate income seniors with affordable housing options. The four-story facility, located in Stony Plain, will provide 63 units – a mix of one and two bedroom.

Construction of a lodge in The City of Spruce Grove also forms part of the business plan: as well as other much-needed projects.

Memorial Fund

An estimated 30% of Canadian seniors are at risk of becoming socially isolated.

Contributions to the Memorial Fund are directed to enhancing and supporting the lives of seniors living in our facilities. You can help enrich the lives of local seniors through your generous donation.

Resident Comfort Fund

This special Resident Comfort Fund was established to fund programming to promote active living and to improve the quality of life for residents including:

  • Exercise programs
  • Entertainment
  • Life enrichment activities
  • Craft programs
  • Outings

Alberta has the best charitable tax credit in Canada, and this makes planning a charitable gift to Meridian Foundation in a will, life insurance, or RRSP/RRIF/TSFA designations a worthwhile and smart strategy for saving taxes too.
