Accommodations may be made for diabetic meals and doctor-confirmed allergies such as celiac. However, no other specialty diets can be accommodated. Residents may choose what they would like to eat based on the available options for each meal.
Q:
Can I purchase (or bring) my own air conditioning unit?
A:
All units must be approved by Meridian Housing Foundation management prior to installation. You will be invoiced for an additional surcharge of $60 per year.
Q:
How long do I wait once I apply?
A:
Once you have submitted your application and supporting documentation, your application will be priority rated and added to our waiting lists. We cannot estimate or guarantee wait times as it is based on priority ratings (not ‘first-come first-serve’) and lists may fluctuate.
Q:
Can family or community members attend activities or special events?
A:
Friends, family and community members are always welcome in the lodge. A monthly event calendar is available from our Activities Coordinator. There are also special functions such as barbeques and seasonal parties throughout the year, to which we make an extra special effort to include the family and friends of our residents.
Q:
Do you allow smoking?
A:
As per Provincial Government legislation, all our buildings are smoke-free and smoking is not allowed in any resident rooms or common areas. This includes cannabis and vaping. Cigarette smoking is only allowed in the designated smoking room located in Whispering Waters’ Manor. The growth of cannabis plants is also prohibited in Meridian Housing Foundation buildings.
Q:
Are there laundry facilities available?

Residents are allowed to use the common laundry room available on each floor of the lodge. Machine use is free. Residents must supply their own HE Laundry soap and laundry supplies. Personal Laundry services are available for a cost of $50/month per person for personal laundry.
Q:
Do you allow pets?
A:
Unfortunately, pets are not allowed in any resident rooms in the Lodge. Visiting pets are welcome, but long-term/overnight visits are not allowed.

Limited parking spaces with electrical plug-ins are available for a monthly fee for residents who have a vehicle and a valid driver’s license. There are no underground or covered parking areas. Limited indoor scooter parking is also available.

What is included in the rent?
A:
Our comprehensive rent package includes all meals and snacks, weekly light room cleaning, Emergency Medi-Pendant, Emergency call bell in residents’ suite, 24-hour non-medical staff, recreational programming, and utilities.
Q:
Are TV, Internet, and Telephone services included in the rent?
A:
TV, internet, and telephone services are the responsibility of the resident. You can choose from any service providers available. There are existing telephone and cable lines in each room and you are responsible for connecting, disconnecting, and paying for services.
Q:
What will my rent be?
A:
Rent is subsidized by the Alberta Government if you meet the income eligibility threshold. The subsidized rate is $1590.00. If your income is above the set threshold, the unsubsidized rent would be $2214.00. Rental rates effective January 2025.
Q:
May I apply if I am not yet 65 years old?
A:
Applicants must be 65 years of age or older.
Q:
What sizes are the suites?
A:
Our suites are approximately 330 ft². Each room has two closets, and a bathroom complete with a walk-in shower.
Q:
Do you provide accommodation for couples?
A:
Whispering Waters Manor offers only studio suites, which may not be the most suitable option for two individuals. However, if residents can comfortably meet our housekeeping standards, we would be happy to explore this option with them.

Resident

“I was alone, looking after my house, and visiting my husband who wasn’t well. I suddenly decided one day I just couldn’t look after the yard anymore. And I made up my mind that I was going to move to Meridian. I do like it here; it’s really good. It’s really positive. The people here are very very nice and supportive.”
