Meridian Housing Foundation was established in 1960 in Stony Plain, Alberta when local municipalities entered into a collaborative partnership to provide housing for seniors 65 and older.
Currently, these municipalities include the City of Spruce Grove, the Town of Stony Plain, and Parkland County. In 1995, Meridian Housing Foundation was established as a “Housing Management Body” by Ministerial Order under the Alberta Housing Act and became a registered charity.
In 2023, Meridian Housing Foundation became the local provider of the Rent Supplement Program, expanding the demographic of households served by the Foundation.
Meridian Lodge
The journey begins with the operation of Meridian Lodge, setting the foundation for future growth.
“I’m closer to kids and grandkids. I am closer to family and that was my aim. I have a closer relationship with my children and their families. I have made a few friends here which I really appreciate. I still drive so I can go see my friends in Edmonton.”
Alberta Rose Manor
Expansion continues with the addition of Alberta Rose Manor, offering 20 independent living units.
“My wife passed away, so I figured living alone wasn’t good for me because I am a social guy. I mix well with people. I have two sons and two daughters. The reason I moved from Rycroft here is because the family is here. I’m here by choice. Nobody told me to go here. I get along very well!”
Diamond Jubilee Manor
Diamond Jubilee Manor joins the portfolio, providing 45 independent living units for seniors.
“I was alone, looking after my house, and visiting my husband who wasn’t well. I suddenly decided one day I just couldn’t look after the yard anymore. And I made up my mind that I was going to move to Meridian. I do like it here; it’s really good. It’s really positive. The people here are very very nice and supportive.”
“I was a woodworker. I enjoyed that immensely. I built about 1000 birdhouses a year. When I came here, Lori Anne got a saw and I opened up my own shop and kept building birdhouses. We sold them all. The proceeds went to our activities coordinator for the betterment of Meridian."
Spruce Haven Manor
Spruce Haven Manor enhances the portfolio, welcoming residents into 30 additional independent living units.
"I feel very safe here and all of the staff are wonderful. They’re so obliging; they go out of their way all the time to make sure everyone is happy. I couldn’t ask for anything better."
Forest Ridge Place
Whispering Waters Manor expands with the addition of Forest Ridge Place, a 42-unit independent living lodge.
"My health started getting a little bad so my kids figured they’d find a facility for me. So far I like it; Its been good. There’s everything here. There are activities, I can come and go, play golf, I used to play hockey. The family is close here."
